Nice sentiment, though all my guns are O/U’s, the S/S looks better in the field…

Mr. Fogey, I read your comments on the Radix piece "Our Neurotic Elite." Excellent. I've known and grew up with these kids. They are so unintellectual it is ridiculous. They have absolutely no curiosity about a thing outside of their limited experience and they sacred pogue jobs. They are 24/7 hipster snark, giggling, acting like children, saying "oh, for real-sies?," changing with the breeze and their broads are even worse. If anyone is interested in something that is not job-related or drinking-related, then they say "why do you know that? what do you do with that? why are you learning that?"

They are not elite.

Could this be Allan Quatermain with his Double Barreled Express Rifle-"Matilda"?
(Allan Quatermain is the protagonist of H. Rider Haggard's 1885 novel King Solomon's Mines and its sequels). Quatermain is an English-born professional big game hunter and trader in southern Africa, who supports colonial efforts on the Dark Continent. His beliefs, manner, bearing, indeed the very clothes he's wearing fits the description of "contra le monde moderne".
